How We Spent Our Summer

Diane, Bob and B-Wag took a trip to Encinitas, California for the summer. We rented a house for six weeks to escape the Sacramento heat. Little did we know it would be one of the hottest summers in recent California history. Other things we didn't know, and couldn't possibly plan for....

1. Encinitas and all of San Diego County would run out of fans (yes completely out).
2. Stores, restaurants, and HOTELS do not have air conditioning because they "never" need it.
3. 85 degrees and 85% humidity is REALLY uncomfortable, especially when you are pregnant!
4. Swollen ankles really suck!
5. Heat waves can last almost five weeks!

However, in spite of all the complaining, we had a lot of fun! The beach and ocean were visited daily (often twice) for swimming and body surfing (don't worry, only Bob went body surfing). I joined the local YMCA and went to both deep and shallow water aerobics... in case you are noticing a trend, being in the water was definitely the most comfortable place to be, I practically lived in the water!

We went to two weddings. Jill and Chris got married in Santa Barbara... a beautiful wedding in the Mission Rose Garden and a fun college reunion! Wendy and Andreas got married in Ross. What a fabulous ceremony and reception at Andreas's family's home and a fun time with family and friends!

We had a lot of fun visitors in Encinitas too! Mom and Dad came for a week (during the awful heat-wave unfortunately) but we managed a swim or two in the ocean, had a couple of fun days watching and wagering on the ponies at Del Mar (Mom was the big winner on Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo who won his first race since the 2004 K-Derby). We celebrated Dad's 64th birthday and enjoyed a BBQ with Michelle and Jon Cieslak and Val.

Bob, Di and Baby Wagner spent the majority of our last week alternating time at the beach or in Del Mar at the racetrack and had fun with friends who visited and enjoyed a day at the races with us.

We are happy to be home now! Baby Wagner is just about 36 weeks along... The weather cooled off a ton in Sacramento, and we're enjoying the air-conditioning, and finishing up a last few preparations for Baby Wagner!
