Acronyms...

When I was at UCSB acronyms became a way of life. My freshman year I lived in FT, I ate burritos at TA's in IV... sophomore year we lived on DP, etc. etc. etc.
Acronyms have become part of life in so many ways. Bob and I always make up silly little acronyms that only he and I get... our secret code of laughter and life.
But correct me if I'm wrong acronyms in the Environmental Industry are the WORST! There are MILLIONS. You have to know the lingo or you are so SOL. I was so happy to be rid of acronyms when I went on maternity leave and later resigned from EDAW (the name of the company I used to work for that, ironically, is not an acronym).
Well here I am working again... and tonight I find myself reviewing my report to make sure all of the acronyms are listed in the page immediately following the TOC (table of contents). Yep, a whole page dedicated to acronyms. Twenty four total acronyms in my 12 page report. Hmmmm an average of two new acronyms introduced each page. That is nothing really compared to other reports I've seen.
I'm lost in a sea of cfs (cubic feet per second), af (acre feet), mgd (million gallons per day), UWMP (Urban Water Management Plan) and there is no getting out. I'm in for the long haul. I can't say I'm happy to be making sure all my acronyms have been listed (it is a PITA), but it is fun working again.
